What would a Dunedin movie
be without a Flying Nun soundtrack?
"Scarfies"
(directed by Robert Sarkies) has its world-first public premiere at the Dunedin
International Film Festival on July 22 before going on major release in New Zealand on
August 5. The film was the best-performing local movie at Cannes, having already
picked up huge international sales.
"Scarfies" is set in Dunedin in the 1980s, and
features some of the most classic Flying Nun tracks from that chilly
mecca of legendary rock n roll. The music is a huge feature
of the film as the tension builds in this comedy-thriller,
so does the music. If youve ever wanted to see the Clean
live at the Empire, heres your chance. As a compilation in
its own right, the soundtrack hits the mark its bursting
at the seams with gems by the likes of the
Headless Chickens, 3Ds,
The Clean, Shayne
Carter & Peter Jefferies and the Verlaines.
Dunedin boy Andrew Brough and his band Bike
also give us a brand new recording exclusively for the "Scarfies"
soundtrack. The first new Bike song since the highly-acclaimed
album "Take In The Sun", Gaze
is a gentle wonder after the fashion of Circus Kids
and Save My Life, and is produced by award-winner
Malcolm Wellsford (The Feelers, Shihad).
