This month the NZ record label that produced viral musical talents Princess Chelsea and Jonathan Bree is turning 20 years old. One of the people behind the scenes at the label from the start was Gareth Shute and here he takes us through the ups and downs of two decades in the music industry.

Full of her iconic cascading violin and ethereal voice, Cold + Liquid is the perfect extension from Lyttleton-based artist Motte's previous 2017 album Strange Dreams, with added layers upon layers of translucent soundscapes. 

Violet Hirst sits down with Ben Woods ahead of his nationwide tour to talk about his latest album Dispellar, space, field recordings, collaboration and alienation. 

"You want a bit of competition, do you? I'll give you competition, since you won't last a month”. In response, Murray Shaw of Lo-Cost Records began setting his prices lower and lower. “I just remember trying to get people to come in here” he says. “And it really pissed him off cause I was selling new CDs $10 cheaper than him”. Lo-Cost Records not only survived the month, but the next 32 years, and are still offering the lowest prices for vinyl in the Wellington region.
