It has been five years since Amelia Murray, AKA Fazerdaze, released her incredible debut album Morningside. But despite five long years of absence, the anticipation never waned! And we are absolutely stoked at the news that today, Fazerdaze is finally back with a brand new single 'Come Apart'.
Morningside, released via Flying Nun Records back in 2017, certainly put Fazerdaze, with worldwide publications hailing it as "effortless pop songs that are far less effortless than people think" by Pitchfork and "a fuzzed-up, Pixies-worthy melodic high" by Mojo. However, the success of the album and touring in 2018 did lead to the need for a break, to allow space in a time of burn out and difficulty to avoid musical strain. And sometimes, a well deserved rest is just what is needed to allow the to dust settle.
"No longer being stoic and strong was the best thing I ever did for myself. Giving up on the people and things that weren't working in my life was this big emotional release. I could finally put down this weight I was carrying. Ever since then, things have been flowing in my life again" - Amelia Murray.
In that time and ever since Morningside, the world has been waiting with keen ears. And after all that time, Fazerdaze gives us 'Come Apart'; an invigorating, 90's-tinged tune that manifests the many reflections Murray made during that time.
Amelia comments about the single, "'Come Apart' is an angsty surrender to growing apart from people in my life. I wrote this at a time when I wasn't accepting that some of my closest relationships were just not working. I was contorting myself to fit others, doing everything I could to keep the relationships going instead of allowing them to be what they were; ending, done. I believe this song was a way for my subconscious to shout at me to surrender and to allow things in my life to come to an end."
'Come Apart' is available thanks to Fazerdaze's new signing at the newly erected label, section1. Flying Nun Records is excited to also be on board for future releases here down under.
