The annual Student Radio Network Awards are fast approaching, and today the finalists for the six national awards have finally been revealed, the prizes being Te Tōtahi Toa (Favourite Single), Te Tohu Hopunga Puoro Mariu (Favourite EP / Mixtape), Te Tohu Kohinga Mariu (Favourite Album), Te Tohu Kaipuoro Toa (Favourite Solo Act), Te Rōpū Mariu (Favourite Group), and Te Tohu Puoro o te reo Māori (Favourite Song featuring Te Reo Māori).
The ceremony brings together the tight union of student radio stations that feed our ears with the best of Aotearoa's contemporary and alternative community, and celebrates the presenters, volunteers and musicians who represent the backbone of these airwaves. These stations are 95bFM, Radio Control 99.4FM, Radio Active 88.6FM, RDU 98.5FM, and Radio One 91FM.
Flying Nun Records family members Fazerdaze, Recitals, Sulfate, Aldous Harding and DARTZ are all up for some awards this year, including Te Tōtahi Toa (Favourite Single), Te Tohu Kohinga Mariu (Favourite Album), Te Tohu Kaipuoro Toa (Favourite Solo Act) and Te Rōpū Mariu (Favourite Group). We are absolutely stoked to see their names amongst such a fantastic and eclectic list of musicians across Aotearoa's beloved music-scape. Zac Arnold, Creative Director of Naked PR (who are a presenting partner of the awards) says "In true form, the shortlisted nominees are diverse, fresh and representative of the alternative sound of Aotearoa."
The 2022 event will also be the first year that the The Tohu Puoro o te reo Māori Award will be awarded to SRN's favourite tune featuring Te Reo Māori.
The awards will be held in person in Ōtepoti (Dunedin), at the University of Otago at 7pm on November 19 and streamed live across all five stations simultaneously. Voting for Te Tohu Kōwhitinga Tāngata (People's Choice Award) has also opened, closing at 11:59PM on November 4, 2022. Click here to make your vote.
