Tāmaki-based producer, beat maker and singer Baby Zionov (aka Aaliyah Zionov) has released another double-sided release from her upcoming album, Henrietta. 'Henrietta's Melancholy' is a 4 minute, 39 second genre-bending saga, seamlessly floating through sonic dimensions and flirting with elements of funk, house and breakbeat. The 'Dream House Version' is a longer, even more blissful reinvention, gently warming your limbs as you close your eyes in the middle of the dancefloor.
"This funky little tune was designed as sort of a miniature DJ set, taking you through the trajectory of a whole night out in less than 5 minutes.
The beat and bass stay pretty consistent while the textures and moods surrounding them come and go. The first half is pure disco boogie-shoes party time, but in the second half it slowly gets sparser and more intimate.
It’s the musical equivalent of when everyone’s left the party and it’s just you and the girls sitting on the floor having deep and meaningfuls in between nangs." — Baby Zionov
Baby Zionov is proving herself to be one of Aotearoa's most inventive up and coming musicans. We are excited to hear her upcoming project Henrietta, out everywhere digitally on July 1 via Sunreturn. You can preorder it via her Bandcamp.
