Jazmine Mary recorded The Licking of a Tangerine at Neils Finn’s Roundhead Studios with support from the likes of Peter Ruddell (Wax Chattels, Sulfate) and Dave Kahn (Marlon Williams, Reb Fountain).
Her sound has been described as “dream-folk”; visceral and haunting with “rose-tinted sounds which will allow you to be transported somewhere bold and watery.”
“Music isn’t something I want to work at. It is beautiful and often feelings mixed with chaos and accidental happenings. I really want to try and preserve that feeling as I continue to make and share. The divinity of it. It’s really interesting and at times almost impossible trying to hold that in a studio space - with new people, or in interview situations where you are trying to describe this intangible thing” says Mary.
Mary is originally from a small town in Gippsland, Australia however her musical journey began since moving to New Zealand in 2013.
She will be performing the album live at her release show this Saturday 20th February at iconic Karangahape Road gig venue Wine Cellar, with support from Louisa Nicklin and Fables, as well as new additions to her own band, Ruddell and Kahn.

“These songs for me feel like a breath of bravery I had to act on quickly, and sharing it is like a slow, pleasant untangling or something like that .”
