The Cure's 1983 release, Japanese Whispers compiled their 1982/83 singles and EPs. 

After the dark splendour of the fourth Cure album, Pornography, Robert Smith surprisingly re-invented himself with the poppy and cheeky singles 'Lets Go To Bed' and 'The Lovecats' followed by the new wave synth lines of 'The Walk' EP. 

Just what it was that turned Mr. Smith around remains a mystery, but it was great to see the sun break through his gothic gloom and Japanese Whispers captures this early pop based turning point in the Cure's career perfectly.
