Wendyhouse - Puddlekopf (CD)
A chance recording project between EE monk in Verl, Germany and Mr Pudding in Wellington, Aotearoa/NZ. In isolation and without further consultation, both artists recorded three instrumental 'beds' and three vocals tracks. The vocal tracks were then swapped and mixed with one of the waiting instrumentals. EE monk and Pudding each reworked one of the resulting tracks so that timing and melody might be fully considered, resulting in the less experimental songs Feel Your Last Best Worst Artist and Meltflakes Pop, also included.
Wendyhouse formed in 1992, first performing in a windowless Wendyhouse (hence the name) in Tāmaki Makaurau's Art Space gallery on the waterfront as part of international sound art festival Soundwatch '92. The band performed songs from a dystopian future on toy musical instruments, which was all they could fit in a Wendyhouse (see, it all makes sense). Unwitting Art Space visitor listened and watched the band through security lenses for that psychedelic fisheye experience.
The band performed extensively through the early/mid nineties but have had a low key presence since, as guitarist/songwriter EE monk has spent long periods in the UK and Germany while Mr Pudding has remained in Aotearoa. This has compelled core members EE monk and Mr Pudding to sometimes engage in long distance recording projects like this one, usually employing Dada-esque chance songwriting processes.
