Between the Islands was recorded with a live studio band consisting of Blackman, Tessa Dillon (Mystery Waitress), and Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa (French for Rabbits, Dateline). Lee Prebble recorded and mixed their performances at The Surgery Recording Studio in Omāroro, Newtown, Wellington over three days in May 2025. The album was mastered by Carl Saff in Chicago, Illinois.
