Reb Fountain

Reb Fountain is an artist and musician born in San Francisco, but raised in Lyttelton, New Zealand. She has released five albums - Like Water (2006), Holster (2008) and Little Arrows (2017) were via her own label, the last two Reb Fountain (2020) and Iris (2021) were released (on vinyl and CD) via Flying Nun. Recent singles include When Gods Lie, Don't You Know Who I Am and Beastie

In May 2020, Reb Fountain released her self-titled album via New Zealand label Flying Nun Records to much critical acclaim.  Reb Fountain won the 2021 Taite Music Prize, was shortlisted for the Silver Scroll Award for her song ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am’, and the album Reb Fountain was nominated for five New Zealand Music Awards; Album of the Year, Best Alternative, Best Solo Artist, Best Album Artwork and Best Engineer.

The recordings for Reb Fountain’s self-titled record came together in the seasoned walls of Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios. This came about after Fountain was asked to perform, record and tour with Finn on his ‘Out of Silence’ album. Longtime studio collaborator and Head Engineer at Roundhead Simon Gooding manned the helm of their 3 week recording and mixing stint, alongside fellow musical collaborator Dave Khan on producing duties and Chris Chetland (owner of Kog Studios) who mastered the final result. Joining Reb in the studio to record the album, Ben Woolley of The Yarra Benders and drummer Logan Compain provided the intuitive backing, along with cameos from Finn Andrews and Elroy Finn.

The perfect extension of her 2020 self-titled record, IRIS elevates Reb Fountain’s music to new heights. Reb effortlessly combines pop elements with her trademark noir folk-punk sound; weaving authentic and anthemic tunes that create an instant and indelible impression. Written during lockdown in 202, Reb has said on the album “Writing a song a day to keep myself grounded and productive during lockdown, IRIS provided me an opportunity to speak my unspoken, to reflect what I have seen and experienced from within and to bear witness.”
