Not only has the UK seen a flurry of activity on the touring and recording front but the band has backed it up by constant touring in the US and Europe. Lollapolooza saw them covering the whole of America while a support slot with Pavement did the same in Europe. And while the critics have mused and abused, Stereolab has attracted one of the most loyal audiences in the independent music world. In the UK, the \"French Disko\" single (included on this album) broke the band onto the Radio One airwaves and into the Top 40 last year and their profile increased further when Laetitia sang on Blur's hit single \"To The End\"!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll this has brought Stereolab an entirely new audience who ensure the band will never be trapped in any 'indie' ghetto. Stereolab's7 album reissue campaign begins with 1993'sTransient Random Noise-Bursts With Announcementsreissued, viaWarp RecordsandDuophonic UHF Disks, as expanded and re-mastered editions. Each album has been re-mastered from the original 1/2" tapes by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering and overseen by Tim Gane. Bonus material includes alternate takes, 4 track demos and unreleased mixes.
The recording is amongStereolab'smost groove-oriented efforts. There are experiments like the French-pop-flavouredPack Yr Romantic Mind, but it's mostly a lovely, loud, decadent '90s rock record. The song titles reference obscure equipment, the sounds are made with arcane instruments, the repetitive guitar work is directly lifted from Michael Rother, and the cover image pledges devotion to vinyl (the musical obscurantist's medium of choice), but somehow the band never comes off as snobbish.Stereolab'smusic would not only spawn dozens of imitators, but the very stuff they drew inspiration fromEsquivelandOsMutanteswas suddenly the starting point for any self-respecting hipster's record collection. More important, it totally rocks (Our Trinitone Blast) while beaming sunny vibes (Jenny Ondioline).
