Wilfully uncommercial and released on a small label in a regional city, it probably should have sank without a trace; instead, it sold more than 30,000 copies and has never been out of print. Both Young Team and the follow up - C’mon Die Young, captured the arrival of a major band and their subsequent evolution.
Mogwai was and is capable of tremendously powerful work, creating music that’s formally bold, emotionally resonant and conceptually surprising. Nearly three decades on, it doesn’t land any different.
