Tortoise – Standards (Vinyl)
If you value surehandedness, richness, immaculate timing and the occasional tilted eyebrow then there's a lot to enjoy on Standards, Tortoise's 2001 follow up to 1998's TNT. Not only was it the most acoustically enthralling album they had released, it's was also, arguably, the most playful, dynamic, and anthemic post-rock album of early 2000's.
Guitarist David Pajo's replacement, Jeff Parker really found his stride on Standards, enabling Tortoise to take the listener on mini-journeys into sound that alternately shimmer, contort, seduce, and confound.
