The Fall

The Fall were a post-punk band from Manchester, England. Mark E. Smith was the leader of this band, and over the years they had many line up changes.  

Flying Nun Records released the live Fall album 'Fall in a Hole' in 1983 which was recorded by Chris Knox on a tour of New Zealand, promoted by Doug Hood. 

The Fall line up at this time were Mark E. Smith, Karl Burns, Marc Riley, the Hanley brothers Steve and Paul, Craig Scanlon and Kay Carroll. 

This was a somewhat controversial release for the label and Flying Nun founder Roger Shepherd has written about it in his book In Love With These Times. As he says:

"We all loved The Fall. They were one of the original English punk bands inspired by the Sex Pistols’ visit to Manchester and quickly grew into something much more interesting, a band on an altogether different trajectory."
