The Beatles - Yellow Submarine (Vinyl)
The original soundtrack to The Beatles psychedelic animated extravaganza - 'Yellow Submarine', released in 1969, comprised six actual Beatles' tracks and seven original score tracks - essentially an excellent Beatles EP on Side One, and George Martin's atmospheric score on Side Two. It is perfect for vinyl, reinforcing the sense of having two different records but still one complete album, and, as a whole, 'Yellow Submarine' is a delightful album, even if it remains a contentious inclusion in the Beatles' canon.
In its defense, every single Beatles track is a solid addition to their songbook and captures the band at their height of psychedelic pop joyousness. If this were a review of solely the Beatles' EP side, four and a half stars could gloriously stud the page, which is what should matter.
This recent vinyl version has been prepared using the 2009 digital remasters which have been created from the original stereo analogue master tapes except for side one track 2, which is from the original mono analogue master. Includes US Sleeve Notes.
