Yasuaki Shimizu is a Japanese composer, producer and saxophone player who sometimes worked with Ryuchi Sakimoto. “Suiren” was released in 1981 and is the opening title on the sought-after “Kakashi” album which weaves new wave, jazz, fusion, ambient and experimental music.

On any given track, Kakashi is likely to shift from ambient to jazz to Japanese folk to some hybrid impossible to label, and that is part of the joy of such music. You can hear Yasuaki Shimizu's exuberance in his rhythmic, melodic search. Anyone curious about the Japanese underground music of the ‘80s needs to hear it.
